Meet our Board Members


Dr. David Bowen

David is from Knoxville, TN and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia. He graduated from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and earned his PhD in the History of Christian Thought from Vanderbilt University. David planted the Church of the Good Shepherd in North Carolina, where he served as Senior Minister for 29 years. In the fall of 2014, David joined the Second Presbyterian Church staff as an Assistant Pastor. He and his wife, Lee, have been married for over 40 years and have three adult children.

Suellen Warren

Suellen is a native of Dothan, Alabama and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi in English. Since 1994, she has served on staff at Independent Presbyterian Church in numerous roles, including her current position as Business Administrator. Suellen is married to Frank Warren, and they have three boys. Regarding Sanctuary Counseling Center, Suellen writes, “I am very pleased to be part of an organization committed to the health of those in full-time vocational ministry. Sanctuary will be a resource and respite for those who typically serve others, but now have an affordable opportunity for themselves to be served, refreshed, and refueled. I am excited Sanctuary will provide this unique opportunity to my co-laborers in ministry.”

Dr. Murray Garrott

Murray has over twenty years of experience in full-time pastoral ministry. He served as the Associate Pastor at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Durham, NC from 1996-2009 and as the Executive Pastor at Independent Presbyterian Church in Memphis from 2009-2016. The Masters of Arts degree in Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary expanded his knowledge and counseling skills, better equipping him to serve those in the trenches of ministry. Murray completed his internship at the Oviedo Counseling Clinic, working mostly with anxiety/depression, ministry burnout, marriage, obsessive-compulsive, grief/trauma, and addictions

MR. John May

John graduated from the U of M with a degree in Management and Marketing and a minor in communication and is currently Senior Vice president at Simmons Bank. John also serves on the board as committee chairman at Orphanos Ministries and Delta Waterfowl Foundation. John and his wife Amy have two adult daughters and attend Mission Church.

Steve Tilleros

Steve is currently the Marriage and Family Ministries director at Hope Church where his responsibilities include leading all aspects of ministry strategy, staff and volunteer development and execution for Marriage, Parenting, and Men's Ministry platforms at the largest multi-ethnic Presbyterian Church in the US. Before moving to Memphis Steve was the YoungLife Area Director in Jackson Tn for over 17 years. Steve is a long-time coach and advocate for young men and women. He and his wife Virginia have three grown sons.

Virginia Tilleros

Virginia is on staff with Germantown area YoungLife and is also a certified professional life coach with her own private practice. After studying at Belmont University Virginia has worked with children, teenagers, adults, and parents for 21 years serving in the professional roles of educator, Young Life staff, and life coaching. Virginia has three adult sons with her husband Steve.

Tim Johnson

Tim is the Lead Pastor of The Avenue Community Church. Tim was a running back at Bucknell University and continues a love for all things sports-related, especially when one of his three kids are playing. Tim is the energetic leader of a diverse and growing church that serves many young professionals serving in the ministries supported by SCC. Tim and his wife Gina have two sons and one daughter.
