Attachment in Relationships
Hello Friends of Sanctuary,
I hope your summer is going well. If you are around the counseling or therapy world for a while you eventually run across phrases like “Attachment Theory” or “Attachment Disorder”, but may not know what that actually means. Basically, it is a framework to understand how and why people relate to each other. Attachment begins even before birth and though it continues through our lives, the early years of development are really significant in forming patterns of relating to others as we age and grow. Understanding the how and why of our attachment past, can help us understand why we fall into relational patterns, and more importantly, help us understand how to change those patterns if we need to. It is a really fascinating way of rethinking our relationships. If you want more detailed discussion, our own Mallory and Joey participated in a podcast that digs into Attachment. You can listen to part one and twoof that podcast right here.
